DOES ANXIETY MAKE YOU SWEAT?

When you’re stressed or anxious, your body releases a different type of sweat – what we would call anxiety sweat- compared to the sweat produced during physical exertion. This stress-induced sweat contains different chemicals and compounds, such as adrenaline and cortisol, which can interact with the bacteria on your skin. These interactions can produce odors that are distinct from those generated during regular physical activity.

It’s important to note that while anxiety-induced body odor can be embarrassing or uncomfortable, it’s a natural response to stress and doesn’t necessarily indicate poor hygiene. Managing anxiety through relaxation techniques, exercise, therapy, or medication, if necessary, can help alleviate both the mental and physical symptoms associated with anxiety, including changes in body odor. If body odor becomes a persistent issue or is accompanied by other symptoms, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation and guidance.
